800 SAQ Union Members Launch Surprise Strike

Strike Highlights Ongoing Labor Negotiations

Negotiations Deemed Unproductive by Union

In 2021, approximately 800 union members of the Quebec Liquor Corporation (SAQ) launched a surprise strike to protest ongoing contract negotiations. The strike, which began on November 16th and lasted until November 23rd, resulted in empty shelves at SAQ stores across the province.

The 800 employees, who work in two SAQ warehouses and manage distribution, walked off the job after months of negotiations that the union deemed unproductive. Despite the strike being declared indefinite, a negotiation meeting is scheduled to take place between union representatives and SAQ management.

The strike has raised concerns about the potential impact on SAQ's holiday sales, which typically account for a significant portion of the company's annual revenue. Customers are advised to check with their local SAQ store for product availability during the strike period.
