Abdi Jama Eyes Breaking British Semi-Final Curse in Paris

Jama looks to progress past semi-finals in Paris

Jama is one of four Brits at the event

Abdi Jama has his sights set on breaking the British semi-final curse as he heads to Paris for the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Jama, 20, is one of four Britons competing in the men's 5,000m event, and he's determined to make history by becoming the first British man to reach the final since 1983.

The talented runner has been in impressive form this season, setting a new personal best of 13:09.97 at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne.

He'll need to be at his best in Paris, as he'll be up against a strong field that includes Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and world champion Muktar Edris.

But Jama is confident that he can cause an upset and reach the final. "I'm feeling good and I'm ready to race," he said. "I know it's going to be tough, but I'm going to give it my all."

Jama is one of a number of young British athletes who are hoping to make a name for themselves in Paris.

  • Jake Wightman is the reigning world champion in the 1,500m.
  • Keely Hodgkinson is the Olympic silver medalist in the 800m.
  • Dina Asher-Smith is the reigning world champion in the 200m.

These athletes are all capable of winning medals in Paris, and they'll be hoping to inspire a new generation of British track and field stars.
